Ingredients
- 70 g basmati rice
- 1.5 cup water
- 250 g ground beef
- 50 g green peas
- 100 g yellow onion
- 15 g garlic
- 100 g spinach
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 0.5 tsp ground turmeric
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 0.5 tsp salt
- 2 sprig cilantro
Method
- 01Rinse the basmati rice thoroughly under cold running water until the water runs clear. Bring 1.5 cups of water to a boil in a covered pot, add the rice, reduce to low heat, and simmer for 15 minutes until tender and water is absorbed. Fluff with a fork.
- 02Heat a heavy skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and brown it, breaking it apart with a spoon for 6-8 minutes until cooked through and fully browned to a safe internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
- 03Add finely diced yellow onion to the pan with the beef. Sauté in the rendered fat for 6 minutes until translucent and soft.
- 04Stir in minced garlic, ground cumin, ground turmeric, ground coriander, and salt. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- 05Fold in green peas and fresh spinach; cook for 2-3 minutes until peas are warmed through and spinach is wilted.
- 06Serve the ground beef keema matar over warm basmati rice and garnish with fresh chopped cilantro.
